Overview:
A jealous nightclub owner hires a sleazy private eye (Walsh) to murder his adulterous wife and her lover. Feeling merciful, the hit man fakes their deaths instead. Then someone kills the husband and the byzantine and bloody plot takes off from there. Full of mordant wit and bravura filmmaking, this is a darkly hilarious, late 20th-century morality tale.
This flamboyant homage to film noir was the first movie-making effort of the Coen brothers and was shot on a shoestring in Texas.
