Overview:
Water is gold in Los Angeles in the 1930's, and some men are willing to kill for the rights to drill for and pump out the wet stuff. Nicholson is detective Jake Gittes who can't resist the lure of Chinatown or femme fatale Dunaway. The dense plot weaves its way around the characters who find themselves caught up in murder everywhere they turn.
Director Polanski has a small part. Legendary director Huston acts up a storm. Won a screenplay Oscar, and was nominated for best picture. Nicholson directed and played Gittes in a 1990 sequel, The Two Jakes.
