Overview:
Exciting well-acted, fast-paced police thriller features Hackman as gruff New York City cop Popeye Doyle who is on the hunt for a major narcotics dealer. The subway train-car chase is one of the greatest sequences ever put on film. Hackman won an Oscar for best actor for his realistic portrayal of Doyle's vulgar antics and fierce determination.
Also won Oscars for best picture, director, editing, and adapted screenplay. Based on the novel by Robin Moore. Followed by a prequel and, in 1986, a TV movie.
