Overview:
Many directors dare to follow in Alfred Hitchcock's giant footsteps, but few succeed. One who has made a reputation for copying The Master is De Palma, who actually does succeed with this highly imaginative thriller that is filled with good acting and heavy violence. Dickinson is excellent as a depressed widow who wants much more than what life offers. She ends up finding comfort from a stranger she meets at an art museum, but her brutal murder leads to a twisted tale of illusion and reality. Caine is outstanding as the shrink with some secrets of his own. The cinematography is superb and enhances the movie's bone-chilling mood.
